Our meeting this month will be on Thursday, February 25 from 7-9pm at the Minneapolis Community & Technical College. The address for MCTC is 1501 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN. We will be meeting in the same room as last month, T3600 in the T building. Take the stairs at end of the skyway across from the parking ramp to the third floor. The meetup right across from the stairs.
This month will be focused on WordPress beginners, Julie Kuehl will be giving an intro to WordPress and Kenneth Justiniano is talking about how WordPress can be extended. In future months we will be working our way through more advanced sessions explaining these concepts in further detail.
Basic WordPress Concepts
In this session you will learn about the basic components that make up WordPress. We will learn a bit about the WordPress ecosystem and take a walk through the WordPress administrative Dashboard, aka back-end. You will get a quick introduction to some jargon and screens that are central to talking about and working with WordPress.
This session will introduce users to some of the ways that WordPress can be extended beyond the core functionality that is built into the core software. We will talk about different types of themes and plugins, custom post types, and custom taxonomies. You will learn how functionality can be added to WordPress to add galleries, slideshows, forms, and other new features.
