March 2016 Meeting
Our meeting this month will be on Thursday, March 24 from 7-9pm at the Minneapolis Community & Technical College. The address for MCTC is 1501 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN. We will be meeting in a new building this month, room L3000 in Whitney Hall. Whitney Hall is just west of the T Building we usually meet in and room L3000 is on the third floor.
We will be focused this month on hosting and security, David Skarjune will be talking about managed WordPress hosting and Kenneth Justiniano is doing a session about WordPress security.
How does managed hosting compare to shared hosting for running WordPress websites? An overview of professional web hosting options for configuration, staging, security, backups, updates, availability, and performance.
What is security, how does it pertains to web sites, and more importantly how does it pertains to WordPress? This talk will show how to go about making WordPress sites safer with web host and plugin choices, best practices, and common sense approaches to security. Covers security plugins that should be used and why. We will talk about user roles and user role controls as a level of security.
